English IV: Week of April 6

Dear Seniors,

Well....this certainly isn't what we expected for this semester!  I am still hopeful that we will return to our speech work, but until we return, we are going to work on some different texts.  The assignments that I post will be optional, but they will also have connection to the world around us (today and for preparing you for the future).

This week, we are looking at one of my Transcendental thinkers, Henry David Thoreau.  Specifically, we are looking at his text "On Civil Disobedience."

I will be posting activities that support each the resources that have been provided by the County each day in Teams.  When you submit the optional assignments, you will submit them through Teams and I will send you feedback about your work.

Here is an outline of what you will find on Teams this week;

Monday - Listen to the audio version of the text.  Record a Flipgrid - what is Thoreau's point of view.  Do you agree or disagree with this point of view?
Tuesday - Determine what the central idea of the text is.  Annotate the text for examples of how he shows that central idea.  Take a picture of your annotations and submit them to me on Teams.
Wednesday - Create a Flipgrid and talk about the metaphor of the machine.  Turn in the link to Teams.
Thursday - begin working on your essay.  Submit your thesis statement to Teams for me to check.  Remember your thesis statement serves as an outline to your paper (I will post an instructional video about this to Teams).
Friday - submit your essay - you will get feedback on this.

I will also post an update to what we are doing each week on this website.  I miss seeing your faces and working on our projects this semester, but I am confident that if we all work together, we will find important value in the work we do over the next few weeks at home!

See you soon!
Mrs. Trail
