Chemistry I Honors (Period 4)

Course Description

Welcome to Chemistry! This year will probably be one of the hardest for you in science. I structure my class quite differently than you've experienced in the past. My philosophy is for the student to do the learning, while the teacher facilitates with planned discussion, practice, labs, and activities. I will have a plan each day, you will come in and are guided through activities that should give you enough experience with the material and problem-solving that you are able to succeed. I don't regurgitate information. I will show you how to work through the problems and how to think critically. You will have to struggle to truly understand the material.

This is a college prep course. I can guarantee when you get to college (or in the workplace) no one will be holding your hand. You have to learn HOW to learn on your own. It's time! You can do this. I will always support you when you struggle. I just won't do it for you. I also won't let you give up.

I put everything on Microsoft Teams. Daily, you will see the agenda for the day under the conversations tab. Any assignment is highlighted in blue (something you must turn in), or in yellow (it's assigned as homework). I try to link your name if I can remember you've missed, but remember, it's your responsibility to get any late work and to turn in assignments. If you turn work in late- I will take off 10 points for one day late, you will receive a 70 if it's more than one day late. If you turn it in more than a week late, it's a 60 as a maximum grade.

Most of the work this year will be available online. You must do your workbook assignments as well. This is just a good way to ensure you're going through the information and it's been proven that writing material leads to retention. Do your work on time, and remember the more practice you do, the more you will know.
